Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present our latest edition with Los Angeles-based artist Pedro Pedro, titled Sunglasses, Shirts, Sneakers, Wallet and Watches. Pedro views his paintings as parodies of the still-life form: He turns quotidian objects, such as a sock or a half-eaten sandwich, into spirited characters on his energetic canvases.
Pedro specializes in capturing the playful anxiety of our everyday milieu; existing in bold color, Sunglasses, Shirts, Sneakers, Wallet and Watches is a contemporary interpretation of traditional still life painting, depicting the title’s listed items chaotically strewn about in a pile. The piece is a tableau of domesticity, interactions with objects and spaces from the artist’s daily life, and a representation of cluttered isolation. Its satisfying graphic precision, electric color, and seemingly supple, organic texture of every form across invites viewers into Pedro’s jumbled domestic universe.
