Details
Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present our first print edition with artist Greg Fadell, titled Nothing. Fadell begins each work with an existential question about human nature, history, and physicality. He unpacks widely held beliefs about aesthetics and process, considering each piece created as living evidence that there are infinite perspectives through which it can be read.
This edition is a continuation of Fadell’s Nothing painting series, where he applies brush strokes in a liberating and unpredictable manner to free his mind and explore the boundless possibilities of ‘nothingness.’ The artist refrains from symbolic meaning and is instead concerned with the experiential aspect of creation. Composed using self-made brushes and gallons of water-based acrylic, the works at first communicate a substantial sense of depth; however, upon close inspection the opposite proves to be true. In reality, Fadell’s brush strokes convey a sharp effect and leveled surface on the painting, resembling a digital print. The juxtaposition of perceived depth and physical flatness allows for a complex visual dialog that enhances viewer engagement—Fadell’s ultimate goal. Drawing from Fadell’s original works, the upcoming edition offers a sensorial experience induced by his unconventional painting techniques.
“This being my first project with Louis Buhl, I wanted it to be special. It just so happened to be 10 years since I first showed my Nothing paintings, so I thought an edition would be a great way to celebrate a decade of Nothingness.”
