Louis Buhl & Co. is proud to announce a new sculpture edition with New York-based artist Tyrrell Winston, titled Still Life. Winston’s two and three-dimensional works are the result of years of collecting, organizing, and reconfiguring discarded, dirty, (either physically or socially), and forgotten objects. Winston has obsessively collected these items from the streets of Manhattan and Brooklyn, creating work that is part public service, part examination, and part fascination with the permanent energy left behind in these seemingly insignificant records of human existence.
Connecting this practice of collecting materials and his deep-rooted fascination with sports, Tyrrell Winston coats basketball nets in chrome to create Still Life, giving these overlooked but integral objects a new life. Exemplified in Still Life, Winston’s work revolves around drawing absurd parallels between contrasting objects and their narratives.
“Sometimes trophies aren’t trophies, sometimes they’re objects that conduct moments. Imagine the game of basketball as we know it today without a net, without being able to say Swish.” — Tyrrell Winston
