Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present a special project with Cody Hudson—two series of handwoven rugs, each edition limited to just four works, made by independent artisans in Panipat, India using a special naturally-dyed wool blend from India and New Zealand. Each rug was handmade by a master weaver using a shuttle loom. Hudson welcomes collectors to display the works on the floor for traditional rug use, or alternatively as a wall hanging piece depending on preference. Included with each rug is a removable custom wood wall hanging apparatus for seamless wall installation.
Much of Hudson’s shape work is inspired by Mid-Century artist-made textile designs; citing this project as a highlight of the past few years, he was excited to see how his practice would translate into a large-scale woven form. When reflecting on the hand-woven process of the rugs and wall hanging pieces, Hudson expresses an appreciation for the influence it has on the graphic compositions; the process draws a limit on how detailed the design can be, but also illuminates the more simplified forms and bold shapes.
