Mario Moore
Mario Moore’s works are rooted in historical references that draw parallels between the social, economic, and racial occurrences of the present. Based in figurative realism, his large scale paintings tell stories of his own life along with those of friends and family. The figures in Moore’s creations are powerful and resilient as demonstrated through the control of their gaze — a range of emotions are depicted throughout the various subjects in his work, however, the unflinching and direct stares each one holds is a consistent characteristic that has been established within Moore’s practice.
Moore’s work has been exhibited widely including at the Charles H. Wright Museum, Detroit; The Detroit Institute of Arts; The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, NJ; The Smart Museum of Art, Chicago, IL; David Klein Gallery, Detroit, MI; The Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts, Grand Rapids, MI.
A Detroit Native, Moore received his BFA from the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI, and an MFA in Painting from the Yale School of Art, New Haven CT.
B. 1987 in Detroit, Michigan; lives and works in Detroit, Michigan.
